Do you have an interior design project that deserves recognition? It’s time to submit your entries for the 2012 Australian Interior Design Awards, which celebrate excellence and achievement across fifteen residential and commercial categories.

The awards are an initiative of Artichoke magazine, the Design Institute of Australia and designEX.

Events manager Jacinta Reedy says the awards program, which was established nine years ago, has evolved into Australia’s most prominent and well-regarded vehicle for recognizing professional interior design. “The awards have definitely been embraced by our industry,” Reedy says. “They put the spotlight on Australian-based designers who are working to the highest professional standards and provide important international recognition as well. The huge increase in applications since we started is testament to this.”

Reedy says that international publications from as far afield as Europe, South Africa, Asia and, closer to home, New Zealand, now publish information on the winners, “bringing Australian designers to the attention of an increasingly global marketplace.”

The fifteen award categories ensure all facets of the industry are represented, from emerging practices to those with established reputations. Everything from small residential to large public projects is showcased, as are installations and sustainable designs.

Judging is supervised by the Design Institute of Australia. Jurors are Robert Backhouse, managing director at Hassell (Vic); Paul Brace, director of interiors at Jackson Teece (NSW); Rosina Di Maria, principal at Woods Bagot (SA); Susan Rossi, director of interior design at DBI Design (Qld); Ryan Russell, director at Russell & George (Vic); Kirsten Stanisich, director at SJB (NSW); Daniel Stellini, director at Carr Design Group (Vic); and Nick Tobias, director at Tobias Partners (NSW).

The awards shortlist will be published online on 12 March 2012, and the award winners will be announced during a gala dinner on 20 April 2012 at Doltone House in Sydney, coinciding with designEX.

Submissions for the 2012 Australian Interior Design Awards will be accepted until Tuesday, 14 February 2012 for projects completed between 1 September 2010 and 31 December 2011.
