This year marks Décortech’s sixth year of partnership with the Interior Awards, having come on board as a sponsor in 2017. We talked to Vicki Ellis, Sales Marketing Coordinator for Décortech about what’s next for the design industry, how Décortech is leading the way with sustainability and future trends they have their eye on.

What new products or innovations does the design industry need to be aware of?

Vicki: AI seems to have captured the world by storm and is something many designers will likely utilise to assist with early conceptual design.

What is your company doing to help specifiers and designers reach their clients’ sustainability targets or goals?

Vicki: Our main approach is twofold; we ensure that the products we are promoting have all the necessary environmental certifications but are also extremely high quality. Our main driver of sustainability is durability. The longer the product lasts, the longer the period of time to spread the environmental impact associated with the production of raw materials and the manufacturing process. By needing fewer replacements, long-lasting products entail less use of resources, lower emissions of pollutants and a smaller amount of waste.

What future trends, from your market segment, do you see on the horizon for the architecture and design industry?

Vicki: We’re seeing continued emphasis placed on the importance of timber within the design industry. Not only for its natural beauty but also as an environmentally friendly product.

Timber is biodegradable and can be broken down naturally at the end of its lifespan. Its use encourages forestry to expand, thereby increasing the carbon sink effect and making it an environmentally friendly option from start to finish.

If there was one thing you would like the industry to know about your company, what would that be?

Vicki: You can place your trust in our expertise.
