This year marks Luxaflex’s 12th year of partnership with the Interior Awards, having come on board from the start as a founding sponsor. We talk to Shane Harris, Commercial National Sales Manager for Luxaflex, about how the quality and innovation of Luxaflex products have resulted in a range that offers smoother operating systems and more variation and can help reduce energy costs.

What new products or innovations does the design industry need to be aware of?

Shane: There are now all kinds of intelligent new ways that you can actively control the temperature in your home — with the potential to reduce heating and cooling costs by a significant margin.

Luxaflex Duette Shades, for instance, are the original cellular or honeycomb shades, engineered to provide beauty as well as offer levels of energy efficiency in both cold and warm climates. The honeycomb structure traps air in distinct pockets, which creates insulation that can help lower your energy consumption and energy bills.

Duette shades are available in a single-cell design as well as the industry-leading Luxaflex Duette Architella, which features a honeycomb within a honeycomb for maximum energy efficiency. Studies have revealed that Luxaflex Duette Shades can reduce a home’s heating costs by a very impressive 43%.

What is your company doing to help specifiers and designers reach their clients’ sustainability targets or goals?

Shane: With our changing climate, it’s important to protect your home from all kinds of different weather scenarios — such as excess humidity or long periods of rain. We have incorporated a range of innovations into our products to protect against build-up of toxic mould and damp.

Our Luxaflex PolySatin Shutters are specifically designed to be impervious to moisture. They will look as luxurious as the day they were installed for years to come, and are also guaranteed to not blister, peel, flake, corrode or fade.

What future trends, from your market segment, do you see on the horizon for the architecture and design industry?

Shane: Today it’s also possible to choose window coverings that actively block the sun’s UV rays.

Luxaflex Silhouette Shadings, for instance, are specifically made to filter harsh UV rays to protect your furnishings from damage, as are Luxaflex Pirouette Shadings and Luxaflex Lumishade Window Coverings.

Made from 100% polyester, the Veri Shades fabric in our Lumishades range offers durable properties such as fade resistance and specific UV protection to help preserve the fabric and home furnishings from fading.

On the exterior of your home, the Luxaflex Evo MagnaTrack features Luxaflex Spectra Fibreglass Sunscreen fabric, which can help eliminate up to 95% of solar heat, bringing you long-term energy savings and helping you feel comfortable no matter what the weather’s doing.

If there was one thing you would like the industry to know about your company, what would that be?

Shane: Originating in Europe, Luxaflex Window Fashions has added style and sophistication to New Zealand’s windows since the 1950s. Internationally, we put more into research and development than any other window furnishings brand. This results in a range that has smoother operating systems, componentry, and more variations of shades and blinds for more homes and commercial buildings than anyone else.
