Monk Mackenzie says it has shaped itself for the future by appointing architect Mat Brown as its Managing Principal.

Mat Brown, an architect with more than 25 years of experience, has joined the Monk Mackenzie team in their Auckland studio as Managing Principal. The firm explains that this growth of the senior leadership team is in response to the practice’s success over recent years and its increasing involvement in larger, more complex projects.

Mat’s background, which includes large-scale work and a broad spectrum of typologies, puts the company in a position to deliver a wider range of projects. “There’s no question that Monk Mackenzie delivers design excellence. I’m looking forward to working with the team to deliver that same thought and rigour to projects that they might not have previously been considered for” Mat said.

In an industry that continues to change, Mat believes that his experience in practices of different scales will be helpful in his new role. “Making projects happen is becoming increasingly complex, making the architect’s role more and more demanding. I feel fortunate that my career has exposed me to an array of project strategies and that I’m able to share those insights with the Monk Mackenzie team.”

Hamish Monk and Dean Mackenzie, who founded Monk Mackenzie ten years ago are excited about having Mat on board. “We’re pleased to have Mat as part of the team. His strengths are complementary to ours which gives us the sense that there’s huge potential.”

Mat’s role will span the practice’s operations but also include an involvement in some of the company’s projects. Monk Mackenzie says “His experience in institutional projects will be a valuable resource for project teams navigating some of the projects currently on the boards.”
