Two kiwis in top three of international theatre design competition
Theatre Architecture Competition is an international ideas competition, aimed at students and emerging practitioners, which is organised every four years by the Architecture Commission of OISTAT (International Organisation of Scenographers, Technicians and Theatre Architects).
Competitors were asked to design a theatre space for a particular type of chosen performance within the found-space of St Anne’s, an ancient deconsecrated church at the old Prague Crossroads, where the PQ Architecture Section will be housed. Defined by the competitor, the selected performance could be conventional or something more experimental, using a range of media and technologies.
186 entries were received from 44 countries and the international jury made their selection after visiting the competition site in Prague. Massey final year Spatial Design student, Ana McGowan gained first prize with New Ruins.
While having a New Zealander take out an international competition is impressive enough. This year, Kiwis placed not only top, but also third. Sarosh Mulla and Patrick Loo (two of the Oh.No.Sumo collective that was part of Urbis Designday in 2010) with Yun Kong Sung and Adrian Kumar, came third with their theatre design. Have a look at some of the beautiful images they created for their presentation.
