Spirits Bay, one of the landscapes featured in Joseph Michaels’ dark cloud / white light exhibition.

Exhibiting for the first time in Auckland, artist Joseph Michael has captured a dramatic day-in-the-life of 10 epic New Zealand landscapes through time-lapse photography in a new media exhibition - dark cloud / white light.

Opening on 1 February at the Silo 6 Gallery at Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter, the exhibition comprises 4-minute timelapse videos of each of the landscapes accompanied by a specifically composed soundtrack. Michael collaborated with a number of New Zealand’s finest musical talents including Rhian Sheehan, Mike Hodgeson, Claire Cowan, Keith Ballantyne and Tristan Dingemans. Avant-garde sound artist William Basinski, from America, also contributed to one of the works.
