Elemental Formations exhibition

‘Elemental Formations’ is Oratia-based sculptor Rene Jansen’s new sculptural work exhibition that opens at Jasmax on Monday 20 June. ‘Elemental Formations’ is a series of wall-mounted relief sculptures that feature precise execution in contemporary materials and abstract geometric design.

The Brazilian neo-concrete art movement as well as the Zero movement have influenced Jansen’s work. While basing works predominantly on contemporary materials such as aluminium and lucite, the artist includes materials like brass and textiles, with a resonance from other time periods. Different treatments, layering and the use of fine detail in an otherwise simple design, contribute to the tension between the apparent and the underlying suggestion.

Rene Jansen says he has relished the opportunity to exhibit at Jasmax. “This new series of works is in part a response to the exhibition space itself, as well as being a culmination of my explorations so far,” he says.
