Unveiled: 200 Years of Wedding Fashion

This V&A; exhibition explores the history of the wedding dress from the early 1800s through to the present day through the fascinating stories behind the garments and their wearers, including such celebrities as Gwen Stefani and Dita von Teese.
The exhibition will look at how the traditional western European white wedding dress has become the garment of choice for brides in many countries and cultures what wedding dress styles say about the social and economic conditions of their day.
Some of the world’s biggest names in fashion will be represented at the exhibition, including Charles Worth, Norman Hartnell, Charles James, Zandra Rhodes, John Galliano, milliner Stephen Jones, Vera Wang, Vivienne Westwood, Lanvin and Christian Lacroix.
Te Papa has commissioned three leading New Zealand designers to create their own super-special garments for the exhibition, making sure that wedding dress design in 21st-century Aotearoa New Zealand will also be showcased in this exciting exhibition.
