The first City Talks of 2018 features Rob Zaagman, ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, who talks on Dutch design and city cycling.

Rob Zaagman recently launched the Bough Bike as the official bicycle of the Netherlands Embassy during Wellington’s Go By Bike Day 2018.

Cycling has always been an integral part of Dutch life but a sharp increase in motorised traffic in the sixties resulted in growing numbers of fatal cycling accidents, many involving children. In the seventies, social pressure led to the beginning of a process of urban cycling-friendly design which continues to evolve.

Rob Zaagman was born in Amsterdam and studied international law and history at Utrecht University before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and postings at the Hague, New York, London, and Munich. Since 2014 he has been the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Fiji, Kiribati, New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga and Tuvalu, located in Wellington.

Free entry, starts at 6pm.
