38th Dulux Colour Awards judges announced

Entries have opened for the 38th Dulux Colour Awards, inviting architects, interior designers, specifiers and students from New Zealand and Australia to submit projects demonstrating an “innovative, strategic and commendable use of Dulux Colour” across exterior and interior residential, public and commercial spaces. This year, the new category of Temporary or Installation Design has been added to the line-up.

Dulux Colour Specialist, Davina Harper says the annual awards programme provides an opportunity to draw focus on colour in design and to both celebrate and recognise local emerging and established design talent.

“The Dulux Colour Awards celebrates the creativity of design practitioners who use colour to transform spaces. In 2024, we’re excited to further this celebration of colour with the introduction of the new Temporary or Installation Design category, which aims to showcase the use of paint finishes in temporary, installation, exhibition and brand promotional experiences.” says Harper.

“The level of sophistication and constraint exercised by architects and designers never fails to impress our panel, and we look forward to seeing how the judges appraise this year’s entrants.”

Five of New Zealand and Australia’s most prolific architects and designers, who have been recognised and awarded for their own work, will judge the 2024 awards entrants based on innovation, expression, and execution of colour.

The panel of judges includes Sarosh Mulla of Pac Studio (pictured right), Shaun Carter of Carter Williamson, Monique Woodward of WOWOWA, Eva-Marie Prineas of Studio Prineas and Nick Travers of Technē Architecture + Interior Design.

Mulla says he’s eager to assess each of this year’s projects, including the ways in which colour has been considered within the overall design and the impact it has for those who occupy it.

“We believe that colour is a key part in creating joyous and comforting places to live and work. The confident use of colour in the design of architecture has become an obsession of our practice.

We always enjoy seeing the vast range of approaches to colour in the built environment and that is why I’m delighted to be judging the 2024 Dulux Colour Awards this year alongside such an esteemed panel of practitioners. Together we will be reviewing some of the most innovative projects across New Zealand and Australia.”

New Zealand finalists, including students, will receive $1000 towards travel to Australia for the gala event in May and will be judged for the New Zealand Grand Prix award. Entries close on Friday 23 February 2024.

The shortlist of finalists will be announced on Thursday, 21 March on the Dulux website.

Winners will be announced at the 38th Dulux Colour Awards on Wednesday, 29 May 2024.
