Interior magazine has been awarded Best Cover Design in the Trade Professional category of the 2012 Magazine Awards.

Designers Matthew Straker and Carolyn Lewis also received a highly commended in the Designer of the Year (Trade Professional) category for their work on Interior.

The winning cover (above-left) featured on the inaugural issue of Interior in 2011. Speaking to an audience that did not yet know what to expect, the cover design was intended as a style-setter for the magazine.

“As such, a dark and evocative image was selected of a difficult to design and construct element. Add a bright orange logo and spine, a quirky detail in the form of a barcode that slants off at an interesting angle, and carefully considered spine text that will allow the magazine to be referred to with ease in the future,” explains editor Michael Barrett.
