The Foliage armchair by Patricia Urquiola for Kartell is the perfect collision of the organic and the man-made. While constructed from modern materials, the design (which debuted at Salone Internazionale del Mobile in April 2013) references natural forms.
Its base of thermoplastic legs creates a seemingly haphazard framework of branches, while a topstitched, leaf-patterned seat is slung over it, creating a high-backed, cocooning and cosy chair. The Trevira fabric is hard-wearing, making it ideal both for our high-sun environment and for high-octane family settings. But it’s the colour combinations that make this piece so special. There are four (and each cushion also comes in a wool option). Our pick? The blue cushion with red legs – the perfect, eye-catching marriage of whimsy and design.
