Urbis: Comedy, fashion and architecture are an unusual mix of careers… why all three?
Mohamed Kheir: I try to find a way that all three can balance, and maybe even influence, each other so as to create a more unique approach and result. Comedy started as a hobby last year; I love laughing and I’ve always loved that feeling you get when you make someone smile or laugh.
U: You are involved in a range of fashion and music projects… do you think the future of creativity will necessitate working across a range of creative industries?
MK: My design job at I Love Ugly is pretty much my dream job. I get to use knowledge which I garnered from my architecture degree to design store fit-outs, products and packaging, and co-design clothing. It’s all about standing out, excelling at what you do and bringing something fresh and innovative to the table. I definitely think that it has helped me avoid problems caused by the current economic climate. If there isn’t any need for a job it’s best to create the job, and the need yourself.
