Dunedin was host to the Resene Architectural Design Awards in September, where members of Architectural Designers New Zealand (ADNZ) lauded architecture and design completed in the past year.

A project at the other end of the country – in Auckland’s Long Bay – won the supreme award. Constructed from four shipping containers, the Long Bay Showroom and Café was made by Cameron Cotton of Cubular. “This design is robust, environmentally sustainable, energy efficient, affordable and relocatable. It is also beautifully designed and constructed. The industrial nature of the shipping containers has been embraced,” says Astrid Andersen, general manager of ADNZ, of the commercial project.

The prize for the Residential New Home between 150m² and 300m² went to a dwelling in Wellington, designed by BMC Design Ltd’s Brynn McCauley. And Christchurch architectural designer Cymon Allfrey of Cymon Allfrey Architects took out the Residential New Home over 300m² prize. A Waikato home designed by Diana Blake of Diana Blake Design won the Residential Interiors category. adnz.org.nz
