Fashion for Christchurch
Even amidst a room full of guests and a backdrop of fine art, one couldn’t help but notice the stunning couture cotton dresses paraded by five New Zealand actresses.
Couture for Christchurch charity auction held on 2 December at Webbs Auction House was a chance to get up close to the works of some of New Zealand’s leading designers and more importantly an opportunity to offer a helping hand to Christchurch Women’s refuge.
Bidding for the five bespoke designer dresses began with Alexandra Owen’s avant-garde creation, a halterneck dress with a myriad of elegant folds and layers and finished with Taylor boutique’s svelte cocktail dress made of layered white cotton.
In between, were Juliette Hogan’s two piece outfit with a delicate cotton lace skirt and fitted button-up shirt, Adrian Hailwood’s gold brocade design with a 1950s style silhouette and low exposed back and Salasai’s stunningly simple summer dress made from heavy smooth cotton with a pleated, stitched detail sash resting diagonally across the front of the bodice. A total of $2,200 was raised for CWF through the sale of the dresses.
A special thanks must go to the designers, actresses, Webbs team, Moa beer and Peregrine wines for the delicious drinks and Christchurch Women’s Refuge’s Nicola Woodward for attending the event.
