Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe image is one of the most influential pieces of modern art - most of us have seen it before - but what makes this large-scale Warhol installation such an eye-catcher is the effect achieved by thousands of Resene testpots applied to canvas.

Produced for Auckland Art Week by the Resene design team, the art piece looms at four metres high and utilises close to 4,000 testpots in four zingy colours. The team began the process with a smaller version to determine how to pixelate the image in a larger format. It was then prefabricated as eight separate pieces and assembled at its post in Auckland’s Queen Elizabeth II Square where it will remain on display to the public until 4 November, 2012.
